Success for Icon Computer Services in the supply of IT Systems and Services to the Public Sector

Swansea based Icon Computer Services are pleased to announce they have been awarded a three year contract to supply and install computer systems for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and Baglan IT Centre, to include council departments, libraries, leisure facilities, education and training establishments.

To win the contract Icon was in competition with many other companies, including industry giants Viglen and Dell, to offer the best overall value for money. The award evaluated the quality of the equipment and supply chain plus the ability to deliver services and support, as well as the commercial value of the contract.

Managing Director Ieuan Rees said “I am very pleased that we have been able to secure this contract in the face of stiff competition. We believe that Icon Computer Services’ high-quality approach to providing equipment and services will continue to reap rewards for the council by providing greater productivity and reduced system downtime.

The contract was tendered using candidates previously selected as part of the Value Wales framework; a Welsh Assembly Government public sector initiative to produce cost savings by promoting collaboration in the purchasing of supplies and in the delivery of services.

Ali Thomas, deputy leader and board member for finance and improvement at Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council said: "I am delighted a local company has been awarded the contract. Neath Port Talbot Council is committed to working with the local business community, wherever possible."

The Neath-Port Talbot contract is worth an estimated £350,000.00 per year. It has been awarded for three years with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

Datagate: The Next Inevitable Corporate Disaster?

Data leakage hit the headlines recently when Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) department lost two CD-ROM discs containing 25 million child benefit records. But this is not the first such incident and neither will it be the last - and data leakage is an important consideration for all organisations, not just public bodies and large corporates.

More than 60 percent of respondents interviewed in a ground-breaking survey conducted by Datamonitor have experienced data leakage within the last year, and 33 percent believe it could put them out of business. They rate loss of intellectual property and financial information as the two most valuable classes of data. Could it be the next disaster that sweeps the global business landscape? It is a momentous time for organisations all over the world and with increasing pressure to stay compliant, businesses need to start taking precautions immediately.

A data breach that exposes personal information could lead to lost business and customer confidence even if the lost data is never used. Sixty-one percent of respondents think that data leakage is the doing of insiders, and 23 percent believe those leaks are malicious.

Nearly half (46 percent) of respondents said they do not debrief or monitor employees even after they have given notice that they are leaving the company. Only 23 percent of respondents were able to estimate the total annual cost of data leakage; the remaining 77 percent were unable to provide an assessment or quantify the costs.

New look for Icon Computer Services website ...

Icon Computer Services' new website was uploaded today. Carl Summers was so inspired by his enrollment on the CIM eMarketing Award course organised by the Swansea based eMarketing Centre of Excellence (Emcoe) that he decided to completely redesign the Icon website from scratch.

The previous website had been operating for approximately 3 years and although it had recently been updated to better incorporate the company identity, it is hoped that the new website will be easier to navigate and be more Google friendly.

Icon Computer Services are pleased to announce their successful appointment to the Value Wales IT Procurement Framework

The Value Wales initiative is hoped to produce massive savings of over £6 million pounds a year

The Value Wales framework is an initiative conceived by the Welsh Assembly Government. According to the Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery, Andrew Davies, "It is hoped to produce massive savings of over £6 million pounds a year" he announced in a statement made on the 8th August 2007.

The award criteria included product quality and service as well as the use of recycled materials and ethical aspects of supply chains. All Welsh public sector bodies are being encouraged to purchase PC’s, printers and other IT hardware and services through the framework.

Icon Computer Services believes that sourcing I.T. within Wales is a more sustainable policy and makes clear financial sense. Not only will this support jobs in Wales, but using local resources will lead to improved response times producing greater productivity.

Icon has proven itself able to compete with industry giants and has an existing corporate arrangement with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. This agreement, for the supply of Personal Computers, has been running since 2002.

With a twenty year track record of providing high quality equipment and matchless after sales service, Icon Computer Services is ready to build new relationships with public sector organisations throughout Wales.
