Email Security
For business, email communication is every bit as important as the phone, post or fax. It's a sales tool and therefore a source of revenue.
We provide a comprehensive email security package that filters your email for spam, worms and viruses before it enters your organisation:
| Virus Filter: |
Effective removal of all known worms, trojans and other viruses. Our powerful virus filters, supplied by Kaspersky, offer full protection against email viruses. What's more our SMTP delivery servers will scan your outbound email for viruses as well. Our virus detection capabilities are updated every 15 minutes. |
| Spam Filter: |
Make the daily flood of junk and obscene emails a thing of the past with our spam filtering. A range of sensitivity settings control how spam is handled and an online spam quarantine folder allows you to keep check on what is being caught. We can't promise to get every spam that comes through (and neither can anyone else, despite their claims), but you can expect to spam to become an occasional surprise rather than a daily menace. |
| White & Black Lists: |
Exact control over who can send to your mailbox. Got on a mailing list you can't get out of? Our Blacklist filtering can ensure that they can no longer get through. Likewise, Whitelists ensure that an address is not subjected to our spam filters. |

Gateway Antivirus Scanning
Not all viruses reach your network by email. Some are contained in websites or masquerade as legitimate software downloads. By checking all network traffic passing between your network and the Internet using an Antivirus Gateway it is possible to automatically identify and remove the majority of viruses and trojans before they are able to do any harm, without user intervention. |
Server and Desktop Antivirus Scanning
Not all viruses can be detected before they reach your network. Some viruses are designed to infect your computer systems before the antivirus community has had a chance to deploy protection against them. Icon Computer Services recommend McAfee Server and Desktop antivirus software to limit the malicious effects of these Zero-Day threats and automatically remove them as soon as the detection capabilities allow. |
Firewall Protection
In the past most hackers were just seeking notoriety from breaking into the secure systems of governments and multi-national institutions. Nowadays the motive is usually more commercial: Profit. Your network could be under threat from dishonest individuals or organised crime syndicates hoping to be able to steal trade secrets or financial information that they can use to their advantage.
The use of a properly configured Firewall can greatly reduce your exposure to these internet based attacks by preventing hackers from taking advantage of known security flaws and by inspecting the network traffic as it passes to and from the internet. Find out more on Internet Security. |
Website and Content Filtering
Whether you are considering preventing unauthorised surfing and instant messaging during work hours, or stopping your network users being exposed to unwanted website content, Icon Computer Services have a solution for you.
By using our multi-vendor approach we can tailor a package that can be as flexible as you require whilst providing the highest levels of protection. |
Wireless Protection and Remote Users
Perhaps the second most significant threat to security, after joining your network to the Internet in the first place, is allowing access from users who are not directly connected to your network hardware. Allowing access from remote users is a risk that must be correctly managed and only used in appropriate situations. Icon Computer Services can recommend additional security measures, including strong VPN encryption and partitioned networking, that can make allowing remote users as safe as possible. |
Updating Software To Resolve Security Flaws
Hackers and virus programmers continually probe popular software to identify new ways to deploy viruses. Likewise application developers are constantly updating software to resolve security vulnerabilities. Making sure that your servers and desktops are using the most secure software revisions is yet another step in securing your network. However, allowing servers and desktops to receive updates automatically is not the most efficient use of bandwidth, and is not the recommended solution for larger networks where a managed centralised deployment system is preferable. |
Monitoring
If left unmanaged, even a correctly configured network can develop problems that could lead to unexpected downtime. Icon Computer Services can monitor your network and develop a preventative maintenance schedule to keep your systems operating efficiently by using remote administration or on-site engineers, as required. |
Data Leakage
A data breach that exposes personal information could lead to lost business and customer confidence even if the lost data is never used. Even worse, a disgruntled employee may take your business information to a rival and undermine your reputation and your customer base. We can help by ensuring that the source data is protected by only allowing nominated users direct access to your data files or installing data protection software that constantly monitors and prevents data leakage. |
Full Disk Encryption
I you have any sensitive information to safeguard you can used Full Disk Encryption (FDE). This self-encrypting drive technology locks the drive and makes it inaccessible to anyone without full authorisation. The drive can also be programmed to power down after a predefined number of authentication attempts. Access control credentials are separate from the encryption key and an attacker can’t alter the firmware. FDE won’t slow a system down like other encryption technologies because the encryption engine is in the disk drive’s controller ASIC and so matches the drive’s maximum port speed. As a result encryption happens automatically, at full interface speed, within each and every drive in the system. Its location also means that performance automatically scales every time storage is added in a data centre environment. FDE is most commonly found in mobile computers but it is likely to become a standard requirement on desktop and server computers in the future.

Periodic Security Analysis
Once we have hardened your Network Security, one of our own security specialists will periodically attempt to breach your protection using the latest intrusion techniques and suggest ways in which to further improve the level of protection. |
Backup and Disaster Recovery
Even the best protected network may fail one day, or be unavailable through circumstances that you cannot control. Fire, flood and other catastrophic events in your area could deny you access to your building and your precious data within. If the worst happens, having an effective Backup Strategy coupled with a pro-active Disaster Recovery plan could be the difference between your business continuing to trade or failing through no fault of your own.
Icon Computer Services can help you to develop and implement a Disaster Recovery plan by using tried and tested backup solutions coupled with emerging technologies such as Virtualisation and Thin Client and Off-site Backup. |
